"Why would I pay for an audit when free scanners exist?" It's the right question to ask. Here's the honest answer.
What free tools are genuinely good at
Free scanners like Lighthouse or PageSpeed are excellent at generating data fast: load times, a performance score, a list of flags. If you want a quick technical pulse, they're a fine starting point, and we use them too.
Where they stop being useful
A free scan hands you a wall of results and walks away. It won't tell you:
- Which of the 200 flags actually matter for your business
- Whether that "issue" is urgent or harmless
- What any of it means in plain English
- How to fix it
- Whether your checkout or contact form actually works for a real person
Data isn't the same as answers. A list of error codes is only valuable if you already know how to read it — and if you did, you wouldn't need the scan.
What a human audit adds
An audit is interpretation. A person goes through your site the way a customer would, separates what matters from what doesn't, ranks it, and writes fixes you can act on or hand to your developer. And because it's independent, you get an honest read instead of the person who built the site telling you it's fine.
The bottom line
Use free tools for a quick pulse. Use a human audit when you need to know what's actually wrong and what to do about it. One gives you data; the other gives you a decision.
